Well, the OP said continental or full breakfast. Most are continental--some good, some bad. Your advice is good, though.

My personal grades:
Econo Lodge: A joke. Why bother? Coffee and lousy pastries. Watery juice and cereal boxes if you're lucky. F.

Comfort Inn: "Get your day off to a good start at Comfort Inn. Our free Comfort Sunshine® breakfast buffet, with hot, fresh waffles is just the thing to get you going." Okay. Expanded continental with waffles. Bread products are usually prepackaged and not good. Cereal, milk, juice, and yogurt is what I eat here. C.

Sleep Inn: "Wake up well-rested and ready to jump start your day with the Sleep Inn® Morning Medley breakfast buffet. Every morning, you can awaken to hard-boiled eggs or yogurt, fresh fruit, hot and cold cereals, pastries, freshly brewed coffee and more." More variety than at Comfort Inn, but same problems with baked goods. C+

Hampton Inn: "Start your day off right at Hampton with our free hot breakfast. We'll have it ready just come join us" Similar to Holiday Inn Express. B-.

Holiday Inn Express: "• Fluffy scrambled eggs or cheese omelets • Crispy bacon, sausage patties or sausage gravy* • Flaky biscuits • Signature cinnamon rolls you’ve come to know and love • Our own 100% Arabica Smart Roast® Coffee • Fresh bananas• Assorted yogurt • Hardboiled eggs• Variety of breakfast breads & cereals • Selection of fruit juices and skim and 2% milk" Not bad. Cinnamon buns are tasty but bad for you. I like the biscuits and the scrambled eggs and bacon, but again, not the most healthy. Limited selection of fruit. Good coffee. B.

Staybridge Suites: "Every day, a complimentary hot breakfast buffet gets you going with a not-so-everyday spread, featuring a variety of savory delights and Wolfgang Puck Coffee." More comprehensive than Holiday Inn Express. More fruit and general variety. Oatmeal is good. Wolfgang Puck coffee. A-.

Embassy Suites: Made-to-order food is usually available. Hotels have a full kitchen, so food is fresher. Good selection. A.

I haven't tried most of the other places' breakfasts. I stay at SPG and IHG properties for the most part, with a smattering of Hilton
