Me too.
Even if it works all the time, I don't feel it's a good idea. I would feel guilty leaving the TV and the lights on when I am gone at a time when we ought be reducing our dependence on foreign oil and our carbon dioxide emissions.
New York City has about 75,000 hotel rooms. If two thirds of the rooms are occupied at any time, and every one left their lights and TV on, say, for 5ive hours a night, that's a lot of energy. Assuming the TV is rated at 250 watts and there are two hundred watt bulbs and one 50 watt bulb that you leave on for five hours. Total energy used by the 50,000 rooms is equivalent to that released by about 400 tonnes (metric tons) of TNT. In one night, just one room would use energy equivalent to that released by several kilograms of TNT.
