Sorry to hear about your loss. Unfortunately, local innkeeper laws and hotel policies as posted in the room generally favor the hotel in these cases. You could try suing in small claims court, but unless you can prove some kind of negligence on the hotel's part, you probably won't find any success there. If you have any kind of trip insurance, that would probably cover some or all. Also check your credit cards, some provide some level of insurance, and finally, homeowners and renters insurance (in the US anyway) typically would provide some coverage.
