Question "i'm wearing orthopedic shoes"....."do you have a doctor's note?"

1/30
  • arrived jfk on ua6
  • went to the rcc with a fellow f/t'er to wait for our next flight
  • said fellow f/t'er watched my bags while i went out for a smoke
  • upon going thru security to re-enter the terminal i tell the wtmd gatekeeper as i always do, "i'm wearing orthopedic shoes".
  • sent to secondary for my shoe swab
  • prior to my swab, the tso asks me "do you have a doctor's note?"
  • i reply with one word "no" and say nothing else
  • shoes and palms swabbed and i'm on my way

can any of our resident tso's kindly explain why that was asked?
