About 3 weeks ago on UA975 (IAD-SFO, 2-cabin 777) the night before it was F9 with about half of F showing full on the seat map (I know, I know). The morning of the flight it went to F0 as a bunch of UGs cleared (including Mrs. Modern 49er...but not me). One no-show, and I was in F.
But...interesting that over 12 hours before departure they would fill F with UGs and not preserve any seats for paid F.
Now let's hope I clear on SYD-LAX that is C1. Not counting on it.
