Strange UX E+ / 1k seat question

At least half my flights are on SKywest / UX whatever it is called. Last flight, I did not UG so I was in my usual 12c exit row seat. There were also empty rows of E+ in front of me. E- was full. I confirmed right before take-off that there was nobody next to me (I prefer the serious leg room of 12). The GA said he could put me in my own row in E+ but I said as long as nobody is next to me I am fine.

Then I get on, and the last guy getting on the plane is in 12 D next to me. The door was not even closed. I get up to move to 5 or 6 (an empty E+ row) and the FA says I cannot move. This was after he chastized people for trying to move from E-. I showed him my 1k pass but he said "You cannot move. If you want to try to move I have to call customer service and you could delay our flight..." I said "I am 1k". He says it does not matter. So I just stayed where I was....

have you ever heard of this? 5 minutes later he came back and said it is OK I can move. He was very nice about it. It is not a big deal but in 3 years that is the first I have ever heard of this...was he mistaken or is that some policy? Usually the FA let's me move ...
