Sophie - I feel your pain on this one. My personal worst: Downtown Columbia SC FS, I was given a room on the top floor next to the elevator directly below the air conditioning units for the entire building. The room buzzed and shook. The maintenance guy who was in the room trying to fix the TV said he was in that room almost every night because anyone who got stuck there would complain about the TV reception. He wasn't sure why the even rented the room out instead of changing it to a closet. Haven't returned to the hotel since. Turns out that the Hilton is a much, much nicer hotel in Columbia.
You have to wonder what goes through a hotel manager's head when he allows Marriott's most frequent (profitable) guests to be assigned the worst rooms.
This happened to me in the WilmingtonNC CY. I wound up turning around a leaving at midnight, only to discover there is an RI in ILM that is so much nicer than the aging crapfest that is the CY. The hotel lost a five/six time a year guest, plus everyone else I could tell. (BTW, if you are in ILM, the CY is old, not well taken care of, and located under the all-night glare of a couple car dealerships, while the RI is in the good part of town, new, and staffed by some of the finest people Marriott has in its employ.)
Sophie, keep bringing it to Marriott's attention. I'm convinced that my continued harping about feathers in the room helped in the creating of the feather-free room. Getting "away from the ice machine" button added to the profile list couldn't be that hard, and it's a freebie to Marriott.
