I had a similar problem in Kauai, they put me in a supposedly upgraded view room, but the only view was of the hotel roof and air conditioning units! I complained the next morning (I had arrived after dark the night before), and they changed me right away without questioning to a room with a spectacular ocean view. I wondered and asked why they did not just put me in that room, or a similar room in the first place (they admitted to not being sold out the night before), why make all that drama? I never got an answer. (Overall, Kauai Marriott Resort was a terrible hotel, but the other Marriotts I stayed at on Oahu and Maui were wonderful!)
