Cambodia has been problematic in the past, however exiting the airport last week there was a 'Hello' stand selling their SIM cards for $5. This is a new player in the game. So far I've had no problems (lost my phone recently and needed to get a new SIM card).
thanks a lot everyone for the insight. Will do the research myself moving forth, but it seems like the best option is to get DTAC SIM in Bangkok and hopefully it works in Cambodia as well. Since majority of my time spent will be in THAILAND.
