Match has released more than 450k bed nights back to the owners according to
this report. Presumably a lot of those will have been in the venues for the least popular matches. But I do wonder if the general availability will start to improve now. Both because of these room nights themselves and the pressure that their presenace in the market will place on other providers to lower prices.
I believe they have also returned a lot of the private accommodation that they contracted for. Some of this should find its way onto the market via other channnels now.
On the radio this morning an independent villa company was suggesting that owners are rethinking the outrageous prices they were initially demanding and becoming more flexible on short lets. Even so she was advising that a 15% premium on high season rates was warranted given the demand.
Things might start to get interesting on the accommodation front now.
