My wife and I regularly travel with the Kitchen Sink... as we carry a trade show booth, and all it's contents around the country. Without the 3 bags I can check as an E, or when in J, and her 3 in J, we just wouldn't do the traveling. So in this regard, AC is making money from us, they otherwise wouldn't because of the generous baggage policy.
And for the record... I have never in Hundreds upon Hundreds of segments, not had my traveling companion's bag tagged with the priority tags at dozens of airports, on 8 different Star Alliance Airlines.
