i don't always pay by credit card....a lot of times i usually leave a $200 or $300 deposit during check-in, & it gets adjusted against my bill....it also helps for them to check if they have my spg number in the reservation....i remember a couple of years ago i was traveling with a friend & the hotel had his number in my reservation as well....had i not presented my card, the hotel would have credited the room to my friend's account instead of mine....
