I honestly don't mind the car transfers. I find it an interesting way to see the country, the villages, people, etc.
Thanks
Ericka - useful to know!
Initial quotes for the plane/chopper are indeed pricey - pretty much the same cost as our accomodation for the rest of the trip! Something to mull over, but I suspect we may end up in the car....
Other inputs from speaking to Audley Travel and Ampersand today:
- 3 nights at Taj Lake Palace is considered too much - both reckon the island setting might drive us nuts after that time (I didn't mention the swings...

). Suggestion by Ampersand is 1 night, followed by 2 at Devi Garh or 2 at Oberoi Udaivilas. Audley on the other hand suggest 2 nights at Taj Lake Palace, 2 at Devi Garh, knocking 1 night off of Amanbagh
- Suggestion is that the Imperial is better in Delhi than the Taj Mahal, though apparently Taj's summer rates promotion may make its inclusion better value. Both companies are very down on Aman Delhi (echoing
vuittonsofstyle's thoughts)
- Both agree with the thoughts of staying in Delhi on the last night rather than Gurgaon, reckoning that traffic should be light on the Sunday morning to DEL....
Amex FHR quote came in this afternoon - generally better value than available rack rates for the properties concerned (plus usual FHR benefits), with the exception of Oberoi Amarvillas which was about INR10,000 more expensive for the night.
