You'll have to pay EUR40 for that seat as a Plat. You won't have that seat anymore when you check in. If it's still available you can get it at this reduced price, normally EUR80.

I called and begged a KL agent on the phone last week to just skip the PITA process and sell me the economy comfort seat a week before check-in. Said he couldn't do it on a code share. I said "I want to pay for my seat and you won't take my money. Seems like a stupid way to run a business". Guy hung up on me. KL's response to my complaint after that did not address the central issue of the hung up call, naturally. Fits with my experience living in Holland that their English isn't as great as you think.

Once I had just boarded and was in an economy comfort seat on KL and they offered me a First Class seat that didn't recline. I took it and loved the service, but it was pretty uncomfortable for 7 hours. My wife, also DL PE, has been OpUpped on KL a few times. Me, just the once.

We've also been addressed by name a few times in KL coach, and once we got our meals before the rest of the cabin. Weird.
