I worked in public accounting in the US for some time. Big 4 firm. If you took 10 days off a year, it was perceived that you were slacking off. Basically, I got Christmas and one other week. Most people didn't take one day off the entire year. In hindsight, it is sick, but very common.
These days, the rule is take what you need, just be available somehow. Works for me.
