Purely from a safety perspective, I personally would NEVER consider the option of a night journey on any of India's highways or roads.
Multiple reasons:
- Many highways with lack of any dividers in the road that separate traffic coming in from the opposite side
- Many roads that have no / very poor lighting, as well as bumps and potholes that are hard to see in the dark
- Tired/drunk/sleepy truck drivers (often with ridiculously overloaded lorries)
- Criminal gangs (much lower probability perhaps, but definitely not an insignificant concern IMHO.)
