I also live in Frisco but I work just North of the airport. Hwy 121 is a complete breeze now that its a tollway up to about 3 miles shy of the airport. At that point the toll-road ends. The city of Grapevine fixed things for the next mile up to the mall. Then you hit the merges with 635 and 114 and this is where the construction starts next month. I'm not sure what to expect but am worried.
At least for now I can tell you that the 'final approach' to DFW gets messy between 5PM and 7PM. Allow 45 minutes to hit the airport toll gates at those times from 121/Preston Rd vs. 30 minutes at most other times.
Not sure about your knowledge of the geography but you'll discover 121/Preston rather quickly. Its the primary retail 'gravity well' of Frisco. PM me if you need more detail/info on the driving situation.
