Actually I'm hearing more and more often these days how satisfied customers are with the LGW team. Today alone there's not just the OP's post but I also had a text message from a GGL customer who alluded to the lovely friendly attitude compared to that shown at LHR.
I know there are some excellent staff at LHR and I mean absolutely no disrespect to my colleagues there, most of whom are excellent, but I wonder what's happening that more passengers appear to be unhappy with LHR service than that at LGW.
It does sound as if the OP had a not so nice crew member on board, but as CIHY the cross checking thing was probably fine. I've seen crew members just look across at doors without physically going to check. But I'm not crew so I couldn't tell you exactly how this is supposed to happen, so knowing how well trained they are I'm sure it was done correctly (if a little grumpily)!
