If you decide not to purchase it you can still select seats on all the UA flights if you haven't already (or change them if you wish).
A lot can be said about UA but the possibility of logging in and making changes to the reservation despite booking through SAS is wonderful. I can't even login to the same reservation on sas.dk

Well, you talked me into it. We had decent E- seats selected from when I made the booking, but considering it is our honeymoon I figured I'd splurge. I logged onto UAs website and with a few clicks, and $128pp later, we got our confimed E+ seats (SFO-HNL, HNL-ORD). Although my legs aren't too long, it will be nice having the extra space. SK should really look into making it that easy to buy an upgrade on their IC routes. They might just do okay.
