I booked the room at SPG.com on the day check-in, and it was a prepaid rate, but I hardly consider SPG.com to be a "third party."
In any case, a manager was summoned, who told me the same thing, and that I can go to the SPG.com web to see my bill. Despite the fact that I don't have time to chase down my bill on the SPG.com web site, I went to the web site, and logged into my SPG.com account. The web site doesn't even have a record of my stay (yet), let alone a proper bill that I can submit for expenses.
Has anyone else encountered this dilemma?
Yes, I know I could submit my credit card statement (not that I care to), or create a pro forma invoice, etc. There are a number of ways to get around the problem, but I find it especially irritating that a hotel can't provide a copy of my bill/folio at checkout.
My apologies for the inconvenience, but which Four Points hotel was this, please?
