This was pretty much my experience, with notable exceptions:
1. Using Opera (or other applications that send data around RIM's servers)
2. For some reason, last September some roaming carriers in Chile and Argentina charged for a portion of the data service.
I'm nervous about my upcoming bill, since I wasn't aware that policies had changed and have been using data pretty extensively for the past week in China. The online bill shows much more roaming than in-network data -- but oddly shows lots of in-network data use. In the meantime, I'm just turning off the roaming network and resorting to wi-fi.
