Oddly, although a quick Google finds this tax mentioned on Delta's web site, I can't seem to find it mentioned on the web site of any other U.S. based airline. So I'm a little curious - is this just Delta dipping into our wallets one more time? Is there an actual government tax the other airlines are forgetting to charge? Are people in Atlanta really so behind the times they haven't realized Alaska and Hawaii are states now?

Well speaking of something related, I can confirm that flights originating in Hawaii are NOT eligible for 24 hour penalty-free cancellation that Delta says is available for all US origin flights. I had an SLC call centre agent, supervisor and manager all be surprised that the system says that my HNL-DCA flight is NON-US origin and thus not eligible for 24 hour cancellation (as I needed to do to change to another flight set for G class availability). They stated to me as black and white. I had to guide them to the page on delta.com site that says the contrary. Still they couldn't override "the 'DeltaManiac' system".
