Whoever sit by the window get to control the shade to be shut or open. One time I was in UA F on the 744, I kept it open I was at 5A, lady across from me at 5E ask me to shut the shade as she said she was trying to sleep, I told her she can use her eyeshade from the amenity kit or better yet reserve window next time. I choose my window because I want to have the view and natural light, not going to sacrify the perks come from my choice of seat.

There is no right to request someone to close to shade for your enjoyment not unless the person by the window is sleeping. Whenever I sit by aisle, I had never asked anyone by the window to close or open the shade, even some of them close the shade the entire flight from take off to landing.
