If you are earning 2,000 miles a year through this program, it means that your spend is $333/month or $4,000/year which probably means that a Safeway grocery is currently your primary store. If you value the miles at a generous 2 cents/mile, it means you earned $40 in miles per year through this program or 1% back. Safeway's site says that it did away with this program as part of its "lower prices everyday" pricing program.

Example: I've noticed that Horizon Organic Milk at my local Safeway which used to cost $4.49 when not on sale (most of the time) and $3.49 when it was on sale now costs $3.99 as part of the "everyday pricing" program. I would prefer to take an 11% discount now vs. 1% in a mileage program that I may or may not be able to use. I believe you will probably save more $40 in a year or $3.33/month with their lower prices program than what you would have earned with the higher prices and miles program.

Of course your experience will vary greatly depending on your market basket. But if your prices are lower by 5% overall, you're probably better off without the mileage program.
