I reached the million mile mark at the beginning of the summer. I received my "permanent gold card" and my complimentary 8 upgrade segments in my account. Did not know about the luggage tags until I started reading this board. I called American and inquired and they said they would send them to me. The arrived today with two upgrade certificates! Thanks a bunch for letting me know about the tags. If I had not have asked, would not have received the upgrade certs as well.

I also have been upgraded to first class on 3 of the last five flights without my asking, just when checking in!
