Is conventional wisdom still to split the pnr? There appears to be contradictory evidence in this thread Same PNR Different Slots on the Waitlist

Specifically, My wife (1K) and I (GS) are waitlisted for a flight next week to LHR. We are currently on the same PNR with SWU's from my MP account. Should I split or wait it out hoping that both will clear together?
