Saw a classic DYKWIA on the VS1 last Thursday... (we were sat in 28A/C so could see it all). Gentleman and partner board and starts speaking to one of the crew members manning L2.

We'd like an on board upgrade - I'm 6'2" and I'm stuck right down the back in economy.

Sorry sir it's a little late for that now.

But I've been sat in the Clubhouse all afternoon I'm a frequent flyer. Shouldn't you just upgrade me - there's lots of space?

Well sorry sir if you've been in the Clubhouse all afternoon why didn't you ask there?

Well I did but they wanted £249 EACH, I don't want to pay that much. I was told that if I asked on board it would be cheaper.

Well no actually sir, it'll cost more.

He then involves the FSM (who turned out to be working down so actually a CSS) and additional crew until at one stage there were 6 people standing around him trying to resolve the issue. Eventually the FSM/CSS left the plane to enquire about the upgrade and came back and confirmed £249 pp.

But I don't want to pay that much. Can't you do me a deal - surely it's better than letting the seats go empty?

This carried on for over 10 minutes until the crew member offered to take them down the back and try and find some less cramped seats...

Shortly after takeoff we were advised that as loads were so light you could feel free to move around as long as you stayed in your assigned cabin.

It was one of the biggest displays of chutzpah I have seen in a long time.
