Actually, you can rail it all the way from Faro on the Algarve to Vladivostok or Beijing (and from there, on to Hong Kong) if you were suitably insane.
However, if you wanted to keep it a bit simpler, I would look at flying into Berlin or Düsseldorf, from where
Air Berlin offers cheap one-way flights to Helsinki, St. Petersburg and Moscow.
Alternatively, you could also fly to Vienna and continue on
Niki if you prefer.
