MMB is pretty rubbish for changes generally. In my experience (with reward bookings) once you've made one change, the chances of being able to make a second change are slim. If you made the change by telephone, the chances are practically zero. If your booking is remotely complex, the chances of making changes online are slim: on my F out / CW back LHR-NRT, the option is not greyed out and I can change the date of the F out, but trying to change the CW back produces an error.
That said, BA are generally very good at waiving the fee if you say that you can't make the change online (which is fair enough, really).
