As a first time visitor to London for tourism, I agree with many of the posts on here about firmdale hotels. Thinking what I would recommend to my friends, a good option in particular may be the Covent Garden Hotel- it has been around for about 15 years now, and has very quiet rooms- also in your size area they have many options from 300-400 GBP in September that are 35-42 SQM. It is in the middle of everything, yet the rooms are very quiet.
Really firmdale will probably be your best bet- in terms of price, quality, location- some of the other hotels like the Connaught are outstanding, but they are also a lot more than 300 GBP if you want to get even a junior suite.
As for the Savoy- I don't know if they are reopening by September, but my understanding is this will be a stunning hotel when it reopens- it has always been an Icon of London, and is right on the Strand in the middle of the theatre district.
+1 for Firmdale and Covent Garden hotel. I will be staying there again in february for LFW.
