I checked on the IAD to ZRH route from 7/14 - 7/20: $4252 round trip, including taxes in first. If you fly business class on the same flights, it's $2315. An upgradable coach fare is $1327, but you need 2 SWUs to upgrade.
To me, the bargain is not first, but business. For $1000 more than coach, you don't have to use 2 SWUs, get 50% more eqms and get to ride in the newly configured, lie flat seats, which are great.
So why pay nearly double the business class fare to sit in first, only three feet away, with a little bit wider seat and a little more storage space? Status? Prestige? Honor? The fantasy of a gold plated toilet seat?
To me, this is just like buying a carpet in the middle east. The seller starts with a ridiculous, crazy, insane high price so that when you purchase something at only a ridiculous price, the seller tell you that he got such a bargain --and that only because you were a good negotiator.
WOW it used to be $20,000 but now it's only $5000. WOWOWOWOWOW
Save half your money, and take a friend, your wife, your dog (disguised of course), or go twice...
