It's hard to believe that I started this thread 5 years ago and am still asking where the nice hotels are (with the exception of the Nimb) in the Nordic region. I returned this past week to The Grand in Stockholm after a 2 year hiatus. I assumed that with the Intercontinental now managing it and the new wing I would see an upgrade. I was very disappointed. The service was dismal as always. No express laundry service, I had to remind them to deliver by Fedex package several times and not trusting them to press my trousers, used the iron provided in the room. I went to dinner and left the iron and ironing board directly in front of my door, assuming the maid would put it away when they came for turndown service. They left it untouched. The lobby carpet was filthy. Ok, it was snowing but it could still be cleaned. I did stay in the new wing which was a notch up from the older building but certainly nothing special. Considering the space, they could have really made it spectacular. The only bright star, was the two star Michelin restaurant, Matbaren which I highly recomend.
