You are correct in that the linked post is not directly addressing the ability to link an e-cert to a reservation past its expiration date. But what
MC is referencing is the fact that the e-cert won't be usable past its expiration date whether or not at one point in its past it was attached to a specific reservation.

MC stating basically the same thing. The e-cert must be used within its 6 months of usability, not just attached to a reservation within that timeframe.
