If someone's civilian job changed their plans or schedule, I don't think they would get any sort of waiver.
I agree; I would be stuck with whatever I bought. But companies do offer special consideration to our military personnel. After I saw what the Navy offered the kids I asked if I could sign up too...nuts, too old.
