I fail to see the AA "scam" part, unless the "tickler" states it includes $50,000 medical repatriation as part of the transport. (I do agree, the markup is probably pretty high, and insurance companies are full of gobbledygook - dstan's www.insuremytrip.com allows you to read all the fine print, and shows Moody's ratings, etc. before selecting from a number - usually over 20 - policies. I use insuremytrip for TC&II purchases.)

Personally, I use DAN - Divers Alert Network at www.dan.org - which for a $35 ($55 for a family) annual membership covers me for medevac and repatriation for $100,000, as long as I am 50 miles / 80 km (or more) away from home - no age limit and one does not have to be a diver.
