Consider yourself lucky, since the T&C of the gift checks does not allow them being used on prepaid rates. Also, it's pretty clear on the final confirmation page that Hyatt.com rates are prepaid, nonrefundable rates. Any plead for ignorance is, well, you know the drill.

You may be correct; the rate I had at the LB HR was not actually "prepaid" it was a Hyatt.com rate in which they technically took a one night "deposit". Since the stay was only one night total, it appeared the same as prepaid upon check-out. But the rate did
not have the "prepaid" rate warning when I was making the reservation online. This might have made the refund and application of the Hyatt Check Certificate easier at the FD.
