Just to ask a clarifying question to the group here:

Are you required to use the remaining value of your non-refundable ticket for actual travel within one year of the original purchase date or from one year of the original travel date?

Specifically, I have 3 cancelled tickets that were all bought in March '09 for travel in April '09. I was laid off the first week of April and had to cancel these trips which ranged from early to late-April. The total value of all 3 tickets minus change fees is around $1500 that I would like to combine for one international round-trip in April of this year.

[Actually I am requesting a waiver of all the change fees too due to involuntary job loss per UA T&Cs- but that is subject for another thread].

Do I need to use the full residual value within one year of the original purchase date or the original travel date? Or is it possible to apply the unused value(s) by purchasing a ticket now for a trip scheduled beyond the one year mark?
