Some thoughts for the OP:

  1. If you misconnect DEN-OMA and the later flight is oversold, see if they will put you on DEN-LNK. I haven't glanced at the schedules to see how well that would work, but LNK is not that a long or bad a drive from OMA.
  2. Another option if you misconnect and the later DEN-OMA is full would be to go DEN-ORD-OMA. The GA might claim it's not a valid routing (and since it backtracks, it might not be), but if you ask nicely and point out it gets you where you're going, they may do it for you.

Although that's definitely true, I rarely get winded in DEN hustling down the concourse, and I live basically at sea level. Spent decades living at the lowly elevation of ~2000 ft, but after 6 years in the WAS area, I am sure I've lost even that meager elevation adaptation.
