There are two ways to upgrade, firstly with cash, in which case you simply ask your agent to price it and if it's acceptable then pay the difference, the second is with Virgin Flying Club miles. In the second case you need to ensure your economy ticket is booked in an upgradeable fare class (minimum is code 'L') and then use miles (15k each way I think ...). Cheaper economy tickets may not be eligible.
