SWU/NAU use and booking classes

Hi there,

Made AC*E this year after deciding to do all my flying on AC. While the stickies have been very useful in helping this newbie get oriented to Aeroplan and all Top Tier Status-related things, I still have a question though about SWU/NAU upgrade certificates. (I'm currently trying to pick my benefits)

Does anyone know how one is assigned a booking class within a fare type? I typically fly T+ and know that if I'm booked in M or U on a T+ fare, I am eligible to use a SWU/NAU. However, when planning my trips for the year and using the dummy certificate codes, the only fares eligible for SWU/NAU upgrade that show up are Latitude - no T+, which is a bit of a disappointment.

Is this a glitch in the AC website? Has anyone been successful in using a SWU/NAU on a T+ fare recently or been able to display an upgradable T+ fare on the AC website?

Also, since I've never been through the upgrade process before, I was hoping people could correct me if my interpretation is off. After I make the request 4 days before my departure, I go check in at the airport & then show the agent my certificate. I'm confirmed as checked-in and get to play Aerolotto at the gate, where my name will be called if I'm successful in upgrading and at which point, my certificate will be asked for. Otherwise, if I'm not successful, I still get to keep my upgrade certificate. Is this right?

Thanks in advance!
