LanChile/AAdvantage follies

Recently was transferred from a Delta flight LGA-ATL-Lima, Peru to the LanChile flight JFK-LIM. I was on a business class fare (roughly $2000 RT) on Delta, and the xld Delta flight was the domestic portion in F.

They gave me a FIM (flt interruption manifest) that they sent me to LA with. LA wouldn't accept it and made me go to DL at JFK to get a tkt issued, which they did.

DL wrote the tkt in F class, and I was seated in F on Lan Chile (great flight, BTW).

I forgot to give my AA number at checkin, so mailed the tkt receipt and F boarding pass to AA.

Got postcard back from AA saying "your F class tkt is not eligible for mileage accumulation", along with a list of valid coach codes, together with "published business and first class fares"

I called AA back and they said they'd resubmit...

What is the appeal process? This is frustrating.
