Yes, my folks are Singaporean, when they called the airport, the staff told them about the heat seal option. But as you suggested, the concern is Japan's security check. We also considered buying from Japan's duty free, but do you know how prices there compare to singapore's duty free?

If everything turns out to be too much trouble, we'll just have to settle for buying it at full price here in TN. (sidenote: we want to buy a usd100 bottle of scotch as a gift, but I'm assuming we would be able to get a much nicer bottle at duty free than full price in the store).
I don't know what are the prices at Japan Duty Free, my guess though is that it would be higher than at Changi DFS. But whatever they are, they must be better than the street price in TN (Memphis?). What I would suggest is that they note the price of liquor in the airline duty free catalog on their SIN/NRT sector, then compare against the price they see in the Japan Duty Free stores during their layover at NRT. If the airline price is cheaper, then what I'd do is that they approach the flight attendant on the NRT/DTW sector what they want as soon as they board (kiasu!).

You might have them buy at JDF anyway. The Japanese are great scotch drinkers so the selection must be good, certainly better than what can be found on board.

Any other questions feel free to PM me (away for a few days with no internet so may be delayed in replying).
