For completeness, QF allows 96kg free baggage allowance for US flights for those with any QFF status (silver or higher). This can sometimes come in handy (as well as worth a few hundred dollars per flight). Also QF codeshares on US domestic flights (AS, AA, etc) have the QF allowance to the endpoint, which may also be a big saving. I don't know if V.Australia has any arrangements with DL or Virgin America, as part of their "partnership". Also, while not an official entitlement, most AA check-in will allow the QF allowance for free when connecting to a QF flight, as well as waiving the AA checked baggage fees for Oneworld Ruby or higher status. Does Virgin status apply to UA (Star) or DL?
