It has been 6 reward points for every HK$1 spent overseas for a long time.
It used to be 12 reward points => 1AM (i.e. HK$2 => 1 AM), with a conversion fee of HKD 100 per 10000 AM.
Now it is 15 reward points => 1AM (i.e. HK$2.5 => 1 AM - still a bargain if you ask me), with a conversion fee of HKD 300 no matter how many points you transfer to AM.
There is a time limit for the reward points (I think it's 3 years), which I think is a reasonable interval for us to convert our reward points into AM!
That's precisely why I am still holding on to the SCB Amex Card despite the devaluation of the miles end of last year.
In fact, since I usually convert > 30k miles (usually every half a year), so, the lower conversion fee actually works to my benefit.
