1 piece of checked baggage for US-Europe trip? Normal?

I just booked at Seattle to Copenhagen flight over Seattle directly with SAS.

Going to Denmark, UA has the first leg, SAS the second.

On the reservation, it said 1 piece from Seattle to Chicago and 2 pieces from Chicago to Copenhagen (!).

So I called them, and they said that as UA has the first leg, the make the rules - even though I bought the ticket directly from SAS.

I was stunned, but they refused to do anything - told me to just pay the $50 (oh, and kept saying: "from chicago you can have 2 pieces!" - big help).

Does anyone have similar experiences?

Thanks,
Niels

PS I'm pretty sure I'm not going to fly SAS next time I go to Denmark - it used to be a good airline. Used to be.
