I can't have helped but notice that a lot of Chinese friends begin their overseas business trips from Beijing regardless of where in the Middle Kingdom they are coming from.

I think it is because a lot of the biz trips are with delegations where some participants are government representatives of some variety. And of course a Beijing bureaucrat will not agree to commute elsewhere if not absolutely necessary.
