Yes, the officer was quite polite, just disbelieving. I did think that I was going to have to ask him to change his gloves if he wanted to open up my medicine bottle, but he didn't end up looking there. He did find a slightly wadded up receipt in my wallet, which he unfolded to find that I had purchased milk or something similar at the grocery store. I think he was hoping for a gemstone, but no luck. He gave up after that.
The whole thing didn't take very long; I just thought that it wasn't that weird to not buy junk on vacation. Usually I'm the person people stop to ask directions -- the nice lady who doesn't look like she'd pull a knife or give you bad info for the fun of it -- so it was unusual for me to get pulled over like this. Not particularly a problem, and the search certainly wasn't destructive or especially time consuming. But, maybe I'm one of the profiles they look for.
