I travel frequently to BKK and AMS (it's for my Orchid business) I've always used NWA and I upgrade using miles 35,000. NWA would NEVER upgrade over Int water without miles or $$$, regardless of empty seats in Biz. I have been reading about Delta having a different policy. I am about to book my first flight with Delta to AMS. It is on flights listed as operated by NWA (early Feb trip). Potential KLM return leg to US gateway. NWA or Delta on return to Hawaii.
I still have PU503's, and I have plenty of miles, but Deltas upgradeable Coach fare is more than twice the old NWA number. Low grade Coach is the same price, about $1200 (T,V,U,K, etc, depending on routing)
I talked to a Delta agent who said I could use my PU's on the Hawaii / SEA,LAX,MPLS, whatever gateway city I book, but, the gateway to AMS would not be upgradeable unless I bought Y, B, or M
I'm thinking of just getting Coach 10 B/H or 29 B/H as my preferred seat (I'm 6'7") and hoping for a departure upgrade due to Plat. status. Do I have a chance?
Is there a way to accomplish what I'm trying to do?
