"Nope, nothing." "Are you sure?" "Nothing." "You mean if I take you around the corner and look at through your belongings I'm not going to find anything you purchased abroad?" "No." "Okay, let's go look." So we go around the corner, and he begins rummaging through my purse, where he, of course, finds nothing purchased abroad. He asks again one more time, and I explained that we'd managed to cruise with only carry-on luggage, which was stuffed when we brought it, and we had no room to carry anything else home. (Not that I especially need more t-shirts, jewelry bought from dubious jewelers, liquor I can't carry on the plane, or bad artwork.) He finally said, "Aren't you supposed to be stimulating the economy?" and off we went.
I don't usually buy much of anything on vacation -- I went there to vacation, not shop. He could have looked through every compartment of our luggage and he still would not have found anything because we really, truly didn't buy anything we didn't drink, eat or consume while we were away.
Is that so weird?
Not at all. I rarely if ever buy anything to bring home while on vacation.
