I have used the agents at former CRCs to do a multitude of ticket/travel related issues that were more than just seat assignments and "where am I on the UG list". These were not the door monitors but rather the desk agents deeper into some lounges. Where there are ONLY door agents I would suspect that their primary duties are to restrict/grant entrance and sell memberships & day passes.
